Buna is the left tributary of the Neretva, which flows about 15 km downstream from Mostar. It’s 9 km long. Buna originates from the karst wellhead of Bunica, located below the steep limestone section of the Rudine area and from the spring below the limestone section in Blagaj. It is rich in water of 39 m³ / s. The highest water levels are in November and the lowest in June and August.
On Buna there is a hatchery and farmed trout, the environment is suitable for agriculture, in particular, fruit, vegetables and vineyards. At the very wellhead that flows from the deep cave in Blagaj, there is an old Dervish tekija, which in 1664 was mentioned by the travel writer Evlija Celebija. Before the spring, Buna under the earth runs nineteen and a half kilometers. Above the Buna wellhead is the fortified town of Stjepangrad. Neretva flows into the locality of Bunski canals.
